R.I.P. The Worlds No.1 Video Game Magazine
Popular gaming site 1up.com was recently purchased by UGO/Hearst. Due to the buy-out, the long running Electronic Gaming Monthly publication has been put out of print due to a lack of demand. And to top that off, up to thirty staff members were put out of jobs, including but not limited to the EGM staff.
Although it remains unclear how it will effect up and coming journalists trying to get into the industry, or game journalism in general over time. . . Well, it doesn’t look so great, seeing the amount of people left without a job. Even though it is a seemingly sound business move for UGO, it’s a bit of a downer for us long term one EGM readers.
Hopefully all of those left without jobs find something soon.

On a slightly related note, EGM was my favorite gaming magazine.
