htxhelmet 3rd Space Technology Gear Promises to Increase Immersion, Beat Up UserTN Games has announced that they will be releasing the HTX Helmet, a piece of force-feedback apparel that allows video gamers to feel the impact of headshots.

For those of you who are, shall we say, unique enough to actually want to be hit in the head by your video games, TN Games promises to increase the visceral experience of gaming with its 3rd Space technology. The HTX helmet will apparently mimic the system used in the TN Games 3rd Space Gaming Vest. According to the TN Games site, the 3rd Space uses compressed air to create an impact on the user:

The 3rd Space… uses an air compressor system (pneumatics) to inflate/deflate several specialized air pockets (or actuators) located within the front and back of the vest. The air pockets inflate and produce a physical strike against the user to produce the effects.

Exciting stuff! While I can’t imagine the reaction of my roommates if they came home to see me wearing full combat gear while playing a computer game, there are most definitely gamers out there with a desire for the immersive experience offered by the TN Games products. These gamers will also presumably have very understanding friends.

The HTX helmet is still in production and is not available yet, but the TN games vest is available for $139.00. 3rd Space gear is compatible with over 20 titles, including Call of Duty 4, F.E.A.R., and Mass Effect.
