Mac Games Arcade, a Digital Download Application for Mac, Released

This last week has seen the release of Mac Games Arcade, an application that allows Mac users to purchase and download a variety of games for Mac.

Mac Games Arcade, which is made by the same people who run Inside Mac Games, a Mac gaming news site, and Macgamestore.com, an online store for ordering boxed Mac games, is a free, downloadable application that helps users find Mac-specific games.

With Mac Games Arcade users can browse through and purchase from an ever-growing selection of almost 400 games. Every game purchased through Mac Games Arcade is then available as a digital download, and is instantly available to be played once downloading is completed.

One very useful feature of Mac Games Arcade is that it keeps a history of every game you have purchased and downloaded, making managing your Mac games easy and worry-free. With Mac Games Arcade’s purchase-history feature you never have to worry about losing your copy of a game or dealing with copy-protection; your games are always available and Mac Games Arcade always remembers that you own them.

Among the developers collaborating with Mac Games Arcade is Ubisoft, makers of the classic Prince of Persia series of games. Having Ubisoft titles available is a pretty big achievement for the game downloading service, as Ubisoft is one of the bigger brand names in gaming.

I’ve been both a Mac and PC user for a long time, mainly because PCs offer a much wider variety of games. Games have always been a little sparse on the Mac side, meaning my Mac has been relegated to taking care of all my non-gaming pursuits.

This is fine for me, but I imagine there are many Mac owners out there itching for an easy way to find quality Mac games. Mac Games Arcade probably isn’t going to turn your Mac into a gaming machine that rivals a PC overnight, considering most of the games available on Mac Games Arcade are fairly small, downloadable titles, but it is definitely a step in the right direction. With programs like Mac Games Arcade it is becoming easier and easier to find those formerly-elusive Mac-compatible games.
