I am trying to figure out how some websites have a neat little pictureviewer where when you enlarge the image, it fades out the rest of thesite as it opens up the enlarged image in a popup window.

Any ideas on how this is done?

Hello rajsharma_85, The effect you are looking for is achieved using css and javascript. The most popular such script is called "Lightbox". A search in google should find all the information you need to use it on a site.
