Does anyone know of a way to make all external links on a site open in a new window? Can this be done in the htaccess file or with css?

This can be archived with JavaScript i have used this script before for a quick fix (their are lots of similar JavaScript's, goggle "automatically open external links in new window"), it can also be achieved through php which is obviously more accessible (sorry i don't have an example of this to hand but i don't remember it being to complicated to work out from the suggested JavaScript).

Unfortunately their isn't a more elegant method using .htaccess or css as you suggested (though i would love to be corrected!, anyone?).
