I'm sure this would help, it's a live HTML editor, shows everything in the top part. Very handy if you hate switching between editor and browser.

Thats how i started out just looking up guides on goggle then as i came across new methods/languages that interested me i purchased books on them. Also find some good blogs on subjects you are interested with to keep up to date with all the latest methods and innovations.
