Tell me the differnce between ASP and JSP

What is the basic difference between ASP and JSP.Can anybody tell?

ASP stands for Active Server Pages and was developed by Microsoft, JSP stands for JavaServer Pages and was developed by Sun Microsystems.

They each provide serverside functunality to web pages/applications such as reading/writing files and accessing databases, and much more, though as they are different languages they each have their own santax (basicly grammer).
