This week Macworld reported that Hydra, an Aperture plug-in from Creaceed, will get an update from version 1.6 to version 2.0, and will be unveiled at the Macworld expo.
Hydra combines multiple photos to create high dynamic range (HDR) photos with more vibrant and natural colours than a standard photograph can accomplish. By combining up to 10 photos of different exposure into one, Hydra can make photos that include a range of colours that look more like what we naturally see, and can produce some very powerful pictures.
This means users don’t have to pick and choose which of the subjects in their photos will be exposed the best, and can instead make the whole picture vibrant. For an example of how the process works, check out this flickr photo.
Version 2.0 of Hydra will reportedly include a new tone-mapper feature, a better user interface, and some unspecified new “pro options.”
Another useful feature of Hydra is its Morph Age technology, which blends together photos regardless of whether they are exact matches, meaning a tripod is not necessary when taking photos that will be combined by Hydra.
Hydra is one of the few HDR processors available for Aperture. For more info, check out Hydra’s website.
