Some of you may be familiar with Penny Arcade, and online comic based on the adventures of Gabe and Tycho, two gamer dudes who pretty much do nothing more than glorified gamer things. This is my third year in a row, and I found that PAX had a lot to offer this year. Here are some of the highlights. Blizzard Entertainment has their Starcraft and World of Warcraft booths up. No surprise there. Their new version of Diablo is drawing quite a crowd, which is also not a surprise. Nexon has three really... Read More
Fallen Earth Takes The Apocalypse to MMO Levels

Clearly, video games like Fallout 3 and other post-apocalyptic venues are not enough as a new MMO called Fallen Earth is about to hit the market. I am not certain if this is the first post-apocalyptic MMO to hit the field, but I believe that the post apocalyptic genre has the potential to be the most imaginative. I can imagine that all the developers of Fallen Earth are scampering like crazy to make players a realistic landscape of what the world would look like after the buttons are pushed. Then... Read More

Have you ever checked into a hotel, looked around at the lack of amenities and view, and said to yourself: Man, this is nothing like the brochure. Yeah, many of those pictures that you see from a hotel’s web site are taken to make the finest impression on a potential guest, and some of them are probably airbrushed. These are the pictures that end up on hotels.com and other online reservation sites, and the few paragraphs of description they give on the hotel or resort is too good to be true. Don’t... Read More

It would appear that our televisions have gone from analog to digital stations just fine. Okay, just fine is a little too broad of a generalization; after all, there was a record number of calls (317,000) to the FCC last Friday on this subject. However, the FCC was prepared, and they had 4,000 operators on hand to answer what they knew was going to be a rush of calls. Many of these calls were handled by re-scanning the converter boxes. The www.dtv.gov website had a record number of hits. Of course,... Read More
Gamer: Video Games Don’t Get No Respect Once Again

Last week, when I reported that Turbine was allowing people to play Dungeons and Dragons Online for free, I only briefly mentioned the negative press that Role-Playing Games received in the early eighties and late nineties. As a kid who used to play D&D and other role playing games, I heard stories of people who committed suicide when their Player Characters had died, and I didn’t really give it much thought. However, when many Christian groups began to equate the game as some portal... Read More

Right now, I am in a situation where my family and I are moving to another city, and so my son is temporary living with me while my wife and I have the other two kids at our destination. Just minutes ago, my son was missing his mommy, and so I called her up on her cell and put it on speaker. All I could think about was: if only there was a way that people could visit together in some technological way. Okay, that wasn’t one of my better lead-ins, but I think that the company iVisit is... About four months after CES, the Las Vegas Convention Center packs in more tech goodness with CTIA Wireless. It is a chance for all the big names in the mobile phone industry to put their best phones forward, and here is the newest crop. I have listed them alphabetically in order of companies first, and then the model itself. Most of them did not have a price, but there are links to other sources with the prices. If you are in the market to buy this summer, this should give you an idea of what... Read More

Apparently, the new Ghostbusters video game isn’t enough ghosts for gamers, as Swedish developer A Different Game announced a new kind of ghost game with Ghostwire. The game is an augmented reality game designed for the Nintendo DSi. For those of you who are not familiar with augmented reality, you should know this: do not use the terms augmented reality and virtual reality interchangeably. According to Search CIO, Virtual reality is an artificial environment that is created with software... Read More
